The press that Harry and Caresse founded, first entitled Editions Narcisse, and later, more famously, BLACK SUN PRESS, published not only their own works, but works from such renown writers as JAMES JOYCE, DH LAWRENCE, HART CRANE, ARCHIBALD MACLEISH and KAY BOYLE.  Harry helped edit and support a literary journal, and counted amongst his friends and acquaintances counts, dukes, artists, and the estimable GERTRUDE STEIN, EDITH WHARTON, and ERNEST HEMINGWAY.

After Harry’s death CARESSE continued to carry on the work of the BLACK SUN PRESS, as well as fostering visual artists as well, including most famously, SALVADOR DALÍ, whom she’s often credited with bringing to America.
